PTA Committed to Polio Eradication Efforts

To support polio eradication efforts, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in collaboration with Pakistan Polio Eradication Program has taken the initiative to put an end to propaganda videos against polio vaccination by blocking/removal of such videos for viewership in Pakistan.

In this regard, PTA has taken up this issue with major social media/video sharing websites including Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, and Dailymotion etc. requesting them to prevent usage of their platforms for anti-vaccine content.

As per reports of Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Polio disease is still endemic in three countries i.e. Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. The reason being highlighted in the avoiding of and distrust in vaccinations is the misconceptions about the veracity of Polio vaccine.

PTA remains fully committed in support of Government of Pakistan’s and global community’s coordinated and concentrated efforts against the crippling effects of polio and to achieve the status of Polio free Pakistan.

Focal person on Polio Eradication Program Mr. Babar Atta said that he raised this matter with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, PTA, chairman Maj General (retd.) Amir Azeem Bajwa and sought his assistance to remove them.

Mr. Atta claimed that “Facebook has informed the PTA that they cannot delete the videos, but have agreed to limit reach to these videos in Pakistan.

However, we are insisting that those videos should be completely removed as, future of new generation is at stake due to those videos and messages.”
