Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially launched its first non-stop flight connecting Lahore and Manchester, further expanding its international network. Flight PK709 departed from Lahore today, marking the start of direct air service between the two cities.
A graceful inauguration ceremony was held at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, to celebrate the milestone. The event featured a cake-cutting ceremony, while PIA Chief Operating Officer Khurram Mushtaq personally saw off the passengers before the flight’s departure.
Travellers warmly welcomed the launch of the direct route, calling it an important step for the large Pakistani community living in the United Kingdom. They said the new service would make travel more convenient and help strengthen cultural and family connections between Pakistan and the UK.
The inaugural Lahore-to-Manchester flight departed with 325 passengers on board. Meanwhile, the first direct Manchester-to-Lahore flight had departed the previous night, where it was seen off by PIA’s local management and officials from the Manchester Airport Group.
With the addition of the Lahore-Manchester service, PIA now operates five weekly flights between Pakistan and Manchester. These include four weekly flights from Islamabad and one weekly flight from Lahore, offering greater flexibility and improved travel options for passengers travelling between the two countries.
