Sarfaraz Ahmed Named ICC Ambassador for Men’s Champions Trophy 2025

The ICC has appointed former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed as one of the four event ambassadors for the upcoming Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, set to take place from February 19 to March 9.

The wicketkeeper-batter, who led Pakistan to a historic 180-run victory over India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, joins an elite panel of ambassadors, including India’s Shikhar Dhawan, Australia’s Shane Watson, and New Zealand’s Tim Southee.

Reflecting on his 2017 triumph, Sarfaraz expressed his pride in being part of the tournament once again.“Winning the Champions Trophy and wearing the iconic white jackets is a moment I will never forget. Seeing the entire nation celebrate that success remains close to my heart. I am thrilled to witness the competition return and honored that Pakistan is hosting this prestigious event,” he said.

As an event ambassador, Sarfaraz and his fellow cricketers will provide expert insights through guest columns, match analysis, and attendance at key fixtures, sharing their perspectives on what promises to be an exhilarating tournament.

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, a two-time Champions Trophy winner, described the tournament as a “truly unique event” known for its unforgettable moments over the years. “With the top eight teams battling for the white jackets, we’re in for three weeks of intense, do-or-die cricket,” Watson remarked.

India’s Shikhar Dhawan, named Player of the Series in India’s 2013 title-winning campaign, emphasized the high stakes of the competition. “The Champions Trophy is special because one mistake or one loss can end a team’s hopes. It’s the ultimate tournament where everything is on the line, and that’s what makes it such a thrilling spectacle,” he said.

Tournament Format and Key Matches

The eight-team tournament will feature 15 matches across three venues in Pakistan—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi—along with select games in Dubai.

The participating teams have been divided into two groups:

  • Group A: Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh
  • Group B: Afghanistan, South Africa, England, Australia

Hosts Pakistan will kick off the tournament against New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi, while the much-anticipated Pakistan vs. India clash is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.

With high-profile teams, intense rivalries, and a prestigious title at stake, the Champions Trophy 2025 promises to be a thrilling spectacle for cricket fans worldwide.
