Special Assistant to PM Haroon Akhtar Khan Chairs Meeting with Car Dealers Importers Association

Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar Khan chaired an important meeting with the Car Dealers Importers Association to discuss key issues related to the upcoming Auto Policy 2026, as well as matters concerning imports, exports, and customs duties.

Speaking during the meeting, Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized that the Car Dealers Association is a significant stakeholder in the formulation of the new auto policy. He underlined the government’s commitment to formulating policies that support both industry growth and consumer interest.

“The government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is focused on promoting a liberalized import system, which will encourage competition and enhance export potential in the local auto industry,” Haroon Akhtar Khan stated.

He stressed that ensuring quality standards in the import of used vehicles is critical, adding that registration and certification will be made mandatory to maintain safety and quality benchmarks.

Haroon Akhtar Khan further highlighted that Pakistan is gradually moving towards environmentally friendly transportation, moving away from petrol-based vehicles. “Following the Prime Minister’s directives, we have introduced a comprehensive Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy to promote the use of electric vehicles in the country,” he said.

Under the Electric Vehicle Policy 2025-2030, it is expected that 2.2 million vehicles in Pakistan will be electric by the year 2030, contributing significantly to the reduction of smog and improving public health.

“The promotion of electric vehicles not only benefits the environment but also provides cost-effective solutions for consumers,” Haroon Akhtar Khan added.

During the meeting, the Car Import Dealers committed to submitting their detailed recommendations to the Ministry of Industries and Production. Haroon Akhtar Khan assured that the government will carefully review all suggestions and extend full cooperation to the stakeholders.

The meeting reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to engage with all relevant sectors to shape a forward-looking, sustainable, and inclusive auto policy for Pakistan.
