Apple Plans to Ship More iPhones from India to the U.S. Amid China Tariff Pressures

Tech giant Apple is reportedly planning to temporarily increase the shipment of iPhones from India to the United States in a strategic move to avoid the heavy import tariffs imposed on Chinese goods.

According to sources, this decision comes in response to the financial blow Apple recently suffered — its worst three-day market performance in the past 25 years — largely due to the steep tariffs introduced during former U.S. President Donald Trump’s tenure. The tariffs have significantly impacted imports from China, prompting companies like Apple to explore alternative supply chain routes.

Industry insiders reveal that Apple’s short-term plan is aimed at bypassing the ongoing tariff challenges while the company continues efforts to seek exemptions from these duties. Notably, Apple CEO Tim Cook had previously secured such exemptions during the early days of the Trump administration.

Despite this temporary shift, Apple views the current trade environment as highly unpredictable and uncertain, making long-term supply chain investments difficult to plan. As a result, the company is pursuing a cautious and flexible approach to maintain its global distribution efficiency.

This move underscores Apple’s broader strategy of diversifying its manufacturing base, reducing its over-reliance on China, and strengthening its presence in emerging markets like India — both as a production hub and a growing consumer base.
