Pakistan, ZTE Join Hands to Launch Nationwide Digital Skills Training for Youth

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, on Tuesday announced a landmark partnership between Pakistan and China’s leading tech giant, Zhongxing Telecommunication Equipment Corporation (ZTE), to launch a nationwide digital skills training program aimed at empowering the country’s youth.

The announcement was made during Professor Iqbal’s visit to ZTE headquarters in China, held in conjunction with the company’s 40th anniversary celebrations, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives. During the visit, the Minister was given an overview of ZTE’s cutting-edge, technology-driven products and solutions.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Professor Iqbal stated that this historic collaboration with ZTE will pave the way for a comprehensive national program focused on equipping young Pakistanis with market-relevant and future-ready digital skills. He further revealed that the official launch of this initiative is scheduled during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming visit to China next month.

“This program marks a major step forward in transforming Pakistan into a knowledge-based, technology-driven economy,” the Minister said, noting that ZTE’s commitment reflects strong confidence in Pakistan’s digital future.

He also announced that ZTE will establish its eighth global training center in Pakistan. The facility will offer practical, hands-on education in advanced technologies, tailored to meet the needs of Pakistan’s growing tech-savvy youth.

Professor Iqbal emphasized that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) prioritizes technology transfer, youth empowerment, and sustainable economic growth. He invited ZTE to take advantage of Pakistan’s vibrant IT talent pool and proposed the establishment of a Research and Development (R&D) Center in the country to further deepen technological cooperation.
