PTA Warns Against Illegal Online Content and Fraudulent Courier Scams

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a strong advisory warning the public against sharing or promoting illegal content on social media platforms, emphasizing that violations will be dealt with strictly under the law.

In its official statement, PTA reminded users that while freedom of expression is a constitutional right, it does not permit the misuse of digital platforms for spreading unlawful or harmful content. The authority stated that sharing blasphemous material, insulting religious beliefs or sacred personalities, inciting violence, promoting hate speech or propaganda against national institutions, as well as circulating obscene or false information, is strictly prohibited under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 and constitutes a punishable offense.

To promote a safer online environment, PTA encouraged citizens to report any unlawful content through the official PTA CMS mobile app, highlighting the collective responsibility to ensure public safety and national harmony. “Be alert, stay safe,” the advisory urged.

In a separate alert, PTA also warned users to be cautious of fraudulent messages and calls sent under the guise of courier companies. The authority noted that scammers are sending fake messages asking for verification codes or directing users to click suspicious links under false pretexts like parcel deliveries or payments.

These phishing attempts are designed to steal personal data and gain unauthorized access to users’ accounts. PTA clarified that such messages are fraudulent , and have no connection with any legitimate courier service or official entity.

The public has been urged not to share personal information or verification codes with anyone and to ignore suspicious communication to avoid falling victim to cyber scams.
