According to a new nationwide survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan, the estimated number of e-cigarette or vaping device users in the country has surpassed 1.2 million, despite relatively low public awareness about these products.
The study examined public awareness, perceptions, and concerns regarding vaping devices and smokeless tobacco products. Findings show that only 17 percent of adults in Pakistan are aware of electronic cigarettes or vaping. Awareness of smokeless tobacco products—such as gutka, naswar, snus, and nicotine pouches—stands at 20 percent.
The survey noted that awareness levels are significantly higher among urban residents and more affluent segments of society.Gallup Pakistan stated that although overall awareness of vaping remains limited, the estimated number of users indicates that vaping is emerging as a small but rapidly growing trend in Pakistan. This growth is particularly notable given that these products have been introduced in the country only in recent years.
The findings highlight the need for informed public discourse and evidence-based policymaking as alternative nicotine products gain traction in Pakistan.
